Hello and Happy Spring!  I am so happy that it is FINALLY getting warm outside!

Time to break out the sundresses and some gorgeous, jeweled flip-flops. J

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter – I did!   I always love to return to my home church Great Bridge Baptist (GBBC) in Chesapeake.  I attend The Falls Church in Northern Virginia, which I just love, but I grew up at GBBC, so much of my heart is still there.  After church, Dad grilled steaks for the whole family to enjoy lunch together.  It was really a HUGE lunch! Yes, I am in training for Miss Virginia, but I deserve a splurge every now and then, right? J

The Friday before Easter, I was happy to kick-off Easter weekend as a Mystery Reader at two elementary schools in Henrico County where Ashley Hailey (Little Miss MGR) and Emily Kinsey (Mini Miss Hampton Roads) go to school.  The children were very energetic and attentive since I was the special guest on their last day before Spring Break.  I enjoyed their enthusiasm!  I even read a bunny book to get us all even more in the mood.

On March 29th, I joined the MGR committee, friends, as well as several local queens, for the “Prentiss Pals” walking team in the Richmond SPCA Dog Jog, sponsored by Preteen Miss Greater Richmond, Prentiss Marquis!  It turned out to be a beautiful day and we all had a ton of fun being together.  My little yorkie, Daphne, was not able to make it to the jog, but let’s just say I had plenty of other furry friends to care for that day.  I was so proud of Prentiss’ hard work and the event’s success!

April 4-5 was the Miss Virginia Workshop in Lynchburg!!  This is always a special weekend because it is the very first time that all contestants come together and we learn the theme and stage setting for our competition in June.  We also have the contestant placement drawing, so that’s always fun to see what number we are in competition.  New this year – at the hotel, there are two contestants per room.   We all attended the Miss Commonwealth Pageant on Friday, April 4 and watch my friend, Laura Pennington, get crowned!  Congratulations Laura – your perseverance paid off and I am so happy you will be with us at Miss VA in Roanoke.

What a great “Class of 2008” -- that’s what we call each year’s group of Miss VA local winners.     Oh, just so you know the result of the lottery placement drawing -- I’m pleased to have Caressa Cameron as my roommate, and we are in Group B which has swimsuit and gown competitions on Thursday night, June 26, and talent competition on Friday night.

Immediately following workshop, I drove down to Chesapeake to emcee the Miss Great Bridge High School Pageant.  For those of you who do not know, I graduated from Great Bridge High in 2002 and was Miss Great Bridge in 2001.  Having the opportunity to represent your alma mater is such a special honor, and I was so excited when they asked me to be the emcee for this year’s pageant.   I must admit that the evening was bittersweet for me because my best friend’s little sister passed on the crown to someone else.  Meredith likes to call herself my protégé, so I was thrilled to be there on her special night.  Watch out Miss Virginia – she’s coming to win in a few years! J

This coming weekend, I am headed to Norfolk to ride in the Azalea Parade on Saturday morning.   Next Wednesday, I will be in Hanover speaking to the Hanover Rotary Club.

I will let you know how these events go in the next edition of Jordan’s Journal!

Enjoy the sunshine and lots of azaleas!
